Aaaaaaaaaaaargghhh... scuppered before I start!

Last night I recieved and email from Dragoman (tour operator for my Hong Kong to Khartoum journey)... they've cancelled the first leg of my journey!

Cancellation

Well as you may expect I was not happy... this part of my journey, Hong Kong to Xian was one of the key sections for me, and of course it means I know have a massive gap to fill, or come home and fly out again.

Basically, the truck that we were to use will be on another journey prior to my trip. This journey was to be via Tibet, however, the border is closed and it means that journey has to go around, through Pakistan. This adds to the journey time and means they had no choice but to cancel the leg that I was to join.

Trailfinders to the rescue...

Today I managed to find an alterative tour with Intrepid that I can do instead... I'll have to leave it early at Xian and spend extra time there until the Dragoman begins, but looks as though things will turn out ok... confirmation pending.

Thanks Lisa, if you're listening!

Dragoman will be refunding me...

As it turns out the alternative takes me across to Shanghai, and more importantly for me at least to Huangshan... the Yellow mountains, somewhere I've always wanted to visit.
